Tomorrow we launch our ‘ mothers advent appeal’ in the hope of raising £500 for our chosen charity this Christmas – Refuge. For the next 24 days you’ll have the chance to enter a competition to win not one but 24 ace prizes (I am seriously jealous of some of these).
For the past few years we’ve done an alternative advent calendar for our littles. They have a small bag to open each day in which is a challenge or treat. They range from choosing some toys to give away to charity through to going out in their jammies to see the house lights, with the odd chocolate coin chucked in for the days when the elves mess up the arrangements (bloody elves).
We are hoping to teach them empathy & compassion as part of the fun at Christmas.
I’ve realised that I could be doing a bit more of this myself, after all the way we teach our children is through the examples we set. I’m also really aware that as mothers we ask a whole lot of ourselves during this time of year, the expectations are often huge and there is always the risk that amongst trying to work out how to turn a blue pillow case into a Mary costume the night before a nativity (this definitely wasn’t me last year) we miss some of the magic and burn out. We dash through the 24 days of December towards that final page of the 25th rather than enjoying and embracing the whole story.
So we’ve decided to do our own Mother’s advent calendar to raise some money for a really good cause (God knows with the political craziness of the last few months what the world needs right now is a bit more empathy).
How does it work?
Each day on Facebook and Instagram will be a post reminding to be kinder to ourselves and others, an idea on how to invest in ourselves OR just a virtual high five for being amazing and holding it all together – kind of. Behind each ‘door’ a new gift will be revealed. By donating £2 to Refuge you will have the chance to win the whole lot! You can enter once or five times over the course of the 24 days (pleeease enter 5 times) and by doing so have the chance of winning all 24.
Why did we choose Refuge?
Refuge is a charity close to our hearts, every woman has the right to live free from violence. Up to two women in England and Wales are killed every week by a current or former partner and the police receive a domestic violence call every 30 seconds. Every 30 seconds. Refuge provides a wide range of specialist support to women and children experiencing domestic violence.
This Christmas we are aiming to raise £500 which could for example provide 100 women and children with a Christmas dinner parcel in a Refuge centre. You can get more details about the incredible work Refuge do and the support they offer on the website page here.
What are the prizes?
Tons of kind businesses have donated beautiful gifts to make up this one massive prize. Check out our Instagram or Facebook feed to see them revealed daily and remember all you have to do is ENTER ONCE for the chance to win it all. Yep, potentially 24 gorgeous gifts delivered to you in January AND the chance to make a real difference to 100 women who really need it this Christmas.
How do I enter?
- Text GMCR60 £2 (or whatever amount you want to give) to 70070
- Comment below or on any one of the Facebook or Instagram advent posts with your name (this is so that we can contact the winner at the end of December)
- You can also really help by spreading the word on social media. Please use the #adventappeal, we promise you’ll feel that warm glow from doing something wonderful
All terms and conditions can be found at the bottom of this post.
Of course if you fancied following the kind businesses who have got involved too along the way that would be marvellous (not obligatory, just because we think they’re ace!)
So there it is, a not so Guilty Mother advent calendar appeal.
Much love and happy Christmas,
